Upcoming Xbox one games

upcoming xbox one games 2016 had plenty of great exclusives for Xbox One, and 2017 looks set to be yet another huge year for Microsoft.

The Xbox One has a fairly impressive library of games already, and some pretty great exclusives in the book, including the likes of Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4.

Many of Microsoft’s finest are now playable across Xbox One and Windows 10 thanks to the Play Anywhere programme, offering you two copies for the price of one.

2017 is looking a little thin in the way of Xbox One exclusives, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of great games on the way, not to mention a brand new, ultra-powerful console in the form of Xbox Project Scorpio, which we’ll certainly see plenty more of at E3 2017.

It’d be great to see plenty of new titles show off the power of the console with some unannounced games, too. Microsoft may also show more from State of Decay 2, Cuphead and Ashen later this year.

So, without further delay, let’s dig into some of the biggest and best Xbox One games coming our way this year.upcoming xbox one games

Acting as what is essentially a reboot of the cult classic Xbox 360 shooter, Prey puts you in the shoes of Morgan Yu aboard Talos One, a highly-advanced space station that quickly falls prey to an ominous alien menace.

From the creators of the fantastic Dishonored series, Prey will give the player a plethora of unique equipment and abilities to navigate the metallic corridors of Talos One and outsmart numerous enemies. You can even transform into a coffee mug, blending into your surroundings.

All of this is topped off with a fantastically original sci-fi narrative packed with intrigue, taking place in alternate universe where Presiden Kennedy survived his assassination and went on to revolutionise the NASA Space Program.

Developer: Bungie
Release Date: September 8, 2017

The sequel to Bungie’s surprisingly beloved sci-fi shooter is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.

While your characters and equipment won’t carry over from the previous iteration, there will still be plenty of awesome new stuff to experience. Including an all new solo campaign, raids, strikes and more. No matter how you slice it, Destiny 2 is bound to offer something special later this year. Unfortunately, Xbox One and PC players will miss out on some exclusive content.

Injustice: Gods Among Us was a gloriously satisfying brawler that saw many of our favourite DC superheroes duke it out in spectacular fashion. It also had a surprisingly compelling story to go alongside the violence, giving us a reason care about all the endless punching.

Injustice 2 is set to do more of the same, introducing a slew of new fighters alongside its darkly ambitious narrative that will see the likes of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Catwoman and even the one and only Captain Cold fight for supremacy.

Developer: Capybara Games

Below is an unusual indie game that is centred around the concept of exploration. The game is still very mysterious, but you will play as an unnamed adventurer that arrives on a vast island in the middle of an endless ocean, dragging your little boat behind you.

Capybara Games won’t be there to hold your hand in this isolation either. The developer has said there won’t be any tutorials, text or heads-up display, so the exploration concept actually extends to the controls and systems themselves as well as the physical exploration of the island.

There’s definitely a Don’t Starve element to Below, but it’s also one of our most anticipated games of 2016.

Cuphead looks and sounds like a vintage cartoon from the 1940s and 50s, with graphics that recall classics like Disney’s Steamboat Willie.

But don’t let it’s cutesy animation style, with all its grainy film ticks confuse you. At its heart, Cuphead is a punishing sidescroller that’s merciless in its difficulty. Any slight mistake and you’ll be severely punished.

This isn’t a sidescroller, platformer for kids. And that’s why we love it so much.

Expected release date: TBC 2016

Developer: Rare
Platform: Xbox One and PC

Anything created by Rare is usually a massive hit with us. And although we’ve not had a chance to get our hands on it yet, we’re already optimistic about Sea of Thieves.

Yo ho, yo ho a pirate’s life for me. Or it will be in Sea of Thieves anyway. You must decide what kind of pirate you want to be, crew up, and set sail on various voyages. This is a multiplayer game set on the big blue.

Like other games, this is a persistent multiplayer world where you’ll be battling (or avoiding) rival crews as you explore the world.

Developer: Playtonic Games
Release Date: April 11, 2017

Playtonic Games is creating the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie with Yooka-Laylee, right down to its adorable dual protagonists and endless bits and bops to collect across its series of imaginative levels.

Those who grew up during the golden era of 3D platformers in the 1990s will fall in love with Yooka-Laylee for its nostalgic callbacks to the likes of Banjo-Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day and more. It may not be Rare, but it’s definitely close.

Developer: Motiga
Platform: Xbox One and PC

This multiplayer title was originally due to launch in 2015, but has been pushed into 2016. It’s a strange game that aims to draw in players from all walks, including MOBAs, MMOs and even action games.

However, the basic premise is that teams of five on five heroes must battle against each other. Each one has their own Guardian, such as a griffin or naga. The winning team will be the one that perfectly combines the skills and powers of all five guardians.

There’s RPG-style upgrading elements for your heroes as well as options to summon more creatures on the battleground.

It’s an intriguing concept, and one that should work well, especially with Xbox One/Windows 10 cross-play.

Expected release date: TBC 2016

Microsoft’s idea with Crackdown 3 is that you’ll “never look at another open-world game the same again”. This is a sandbox that positively encourages mayhem and destruction in a futuristic city.

Your task is to stop crime as a Agent of Justice with powerful super-abilities. And to do so you’ll need to create some mayhem.

There’s a cooperative mode and all new multiplayer where your ultimate weapon is destruction.

City, you’ve been warned.

Mysterious, atmospheric exploration games are a dime a dozen these days, so it takes something special to stand out from the crowd.

Ashen does just that, presenting a sunless, daunting world filled with dangerous creatures such as furry, flying whales. The universe is begging to be explored, and likely holds some interesting secrets.

The combat takes inspiration from Dark Souls, so it should also provide a hefty challenge if the ambiguous world isn’t your cup of tea.

Developer: Undead Labs

Platform: Xbox One, Windows 10.

The original State of Decay was a surprisingly unique approach to the undead genre, forcing us to focus on survivors, base building and exploration rather than piling through thousands of zombies. Heck, sometimes it was better to avoid them altogether while scouring abandoned suburbs in search of supplies. Upcoming Xbox one games

Once again developed by Undead Labs, State of Decay 2 continues the co-operative carnage from the first entry with an entirely new open-world. You and up to three friends can team up to build a community, gather supplies and fend off the undead menace. You’ll also need to protect each other whenever possible.

Microsoft is yet to show anything more of the game beyond a brief yet brilliant teaser trailer, so expect more info in 2017.

Developer: Rockstar

Red Dead Redemption 2 stands tall as one of 2017’s most anticipated titles. Rockstar has done a great job of building hype for the game, and its latest trailer has certainly got us excited to explore the Old West once again.

It’s a cross-platform title, but we’re pretty sure it’ll be one of the biggest sellers on every console it comes to, if the GTA V sales figures are anything to go by.Upcoming Xbox one games
